Mezzo Soprano, Jessica Doyle-Mekkes is a voice teacher, vocal coach, author, and teaching professor who is equally comfortable in the professional world and in academia. ​​

 

Jessica currently serves as the Coordinator of the Musical Theatre BFA concentration at East Carolina University where she has also taught voice since 2017.  A passionate educator, she firmly believes in the marriage of anatomy and artistry and utilizes tools from a vast toolbox created over a 15+ year career coaching singers. ​​

 

Jessica began her teaching career in Los Angeles, working primarily with recording artists and studying Speech Level Singing. A return to her home state of Michigan saw the creation of The Doyle Vocal Studio, which she grew from one student (found via Craigslist) to a multi-teacher studio serving hundreds of singers weekly. Jessica is a Level III Certified Teacher of Somatic Voicework.

A member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing as well as the Voice and Speech Trainers Association, Jessica has presented her original research on the effects lack of sleep has on college-age performers at the NATS Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference to great acclaim.  In addition, Jessica sits on the Advisory Board for The Greenville Choral Society/New Carolina Sinfonia as well as HERicanes, a non-profit dedicated to empowering young women.

As a performer, Jessica is equally at home on both the musical theatre and classical singing stages. Touted for her "unbridled enthusiasm" with "just enough sass" Jessica is "magnetic and instantly likeable" on stage (mlive.com).  Favorite roles have included Caroline or Change ​(Rose), The Sound of Music (Maria), South Pacific (Nellie) and Mamma Mia (Rosie) which she performed as part of ECU's Loessin Playhouse's triumphant return to Summer Theatre.
